My wife and I just bought this car seat for our daughter who is just outgrowing her Chicco Keyfit infant car seat. Perhaps I was spoiled with the Chicco Keyfit, an incredibly user-friend car seat, but in any case I'm a bit disappointed with the Diplomat in comparison thus far. Things I'm not fond of: 1) The recline range of motion in both the rear-facing and forward-facing positions is incredibly limited = not a very good sleeping positiong at all. I was disturbed to find my daughter asleep (rear facing), lurched forward in the seat with her head dangling because the recline is so limited. I cannot help but think this is an INCREDIBLY UN-SAFE position should we be in an accident with her in this position. A little more recline and she could sit back comfortably with her head more secure (for you naysayers, yes, the seat is installed properly and at the correct angle according to the manual. 2) The seatbelt lock-offs/holdbacks are very difficult to use. The cover is always in the way and it requires quite a lot of force to get them to snap closed. 3) The latch straps are a real pain in the a** to get to and to return to their proper storage location. 4) The cinch mechanism for the harness at the front of the seat is too low, making it incredibly difficult to tighten as snug as I want it. It's so low, the seat gets in the way of getting proper leverage on the pull strap. 5) The base of the carseat has rough outer edges destined to rub leather seats the wrong way. How about mold a bottom plate that goes outside the rough downward edges, and has rounded edges itself! In any case, we're another $15 invested now into a car seat protector. Lame. 6) Sure am missing a handle, not just for carrying the car seat but for attaching toys, a mirror, etc. to. 7) There's a ridiculous safety warning label *stitched* to the seating area which is unsightly and I'd think a bit uncomfortable. 8) Why strap the manual to the car seat such that it cannot be easily removed or used and has to be stored under the seat cover? I had to cut the thing to use it. Stupid. Things I *do* like: 1) Safety reviews and ratings. 2) Compact size. 3) Easily adjustable headrest with extra padding (no re-threading straps). 4) Color (Onyx). 5) Airline approved. Hopefully Britax does better on the next iteration of this car seat.
